The extension to apply to sit on the Portland Committee on Community-Engaged Policing (PCCEP) will allow for the City and program facilitators – Training for 4 Transformation, and the Brad Taylor Group – to continue conducting community outreach and public education in order to receive a large and diverse pool of applicants.

"We are trying to create a process that is not business as usual by prioritizing the recruitment of people who have lived experiences with mental health challenges and disabilities. Our outreach will also focus on youth, LGBTQ and houseless communities, Black/African-Americans, Native Americans, Latinx, immigrants, refugees and communities who identify as multi-racial. This focus requires building the trust of each community with City processes. That is why extending the deadline is absolutely necessary for the success of PCCEP,” said Brandon Lee, a PCCEP program facilitator.

The PCCEP will engage with a spectrum of Portland’s communities in key areas of concern, including constitutional policing, use of force, interactions with people experiencing mental health conditions, complaint investigations, and racial justice. The PCCEP will also contribute to the development of the PPB Community Engagement Plan, as directed by the Settlement Agreement between the City of Portland and the DOJ.

The ideal PCCEP candidate is a person who is open-minded and willing to consider other opinions, demonstrates an ability to be impartial and objective, possesses sound communication and listening skills, leads and functions well in a group, and has the ability to actively listen to community concerns. Applicants must be willing to make a substantial time commitment. The PCCEP application is open to people who are at least 16 years old and live, work, worship, and/or go to school in Portland. PCCEP members cannot be current City employees or have an actual or perceived conflict of interest with the City.

Completed applications are due Friday, July 2. There are several options for submitting applications. The online version is available here, a Word version is available here and a PDF is available here. Applicants may also pick up a copy at the Mayor’s Office, or call Mandi Hood at 503-319-7736 to request a paper copy by mail. Application and Instructions are available in additional languages. For more information, visit https://www.portlandoregon.gov/wheeler/article/681102.
